Tottenham Hotspur offer Mauricio Pochettino a new contract - source

Tottenham have informed Mauricio Pochettino that they plan to offer the head coach a new contract at the club, a source has told ESPN FC.

Pochettino still has three-and-a-half years to run on his current deal at White Hart Lane after joining Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2014, but the club are keen to reward him for his success so far in north London.

The former Argentina international has helped transform Tottenham into title contenders during his first 18 months in charge of the club, with Spurs just five points behind current leaders Leicester City. And Pochettino has also forged a reputation for helping bringing through and developing young talents such as Dele Alli and Eric Dier at White Hart Lane.

Pochettino's success at Tottenham has seen him linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United, with the 44-year-old regarded as one of the best young coaches around.

However Tottenham are keen to head off any potential interest in Pochettino's services by securing the former Espanyol boss on a new long-term contract.

A source has told ESPN FC that Tottenham officials have indicated to Pochettino that they want to discuss a new deal with him, but that talks will take place once the season draws to an end as everyone at the club wants to focus on their bid for Premier League and Europa League glory.
