Tottenham's Dele Alli denies deliberately kicking Tomovic

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has said he did not deliberately kick Fiorentina's Nenad Tomovic in Thursday's Europa League clash.

Alli, who said he would not change his aggressive style of play, appeared to aim a kick at the grounded Tomovic in the 30th minute of the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The 19-year-old was only booked and will not face retrospective punishment because the referee took action.

"It was not deliberate," Alli told The Evening Standard. "I would never do that.

"Football always gets a bit heated, but we shook hands and that's fine. I told him what happened, he said it was okay, and we moved on. I explained it to him and we leave it behind now."

It was not the first time Alli has been involved in controversy since joining Spurs from MK Dons in the summer.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew claimed the England international had stamped on Yohan Cabaye in Spurs' 3-1 win at Selhurst Park in January, but Alli said he would not try to tame his approach.

"Coming from League One, a lot of tackles go in and that is where I've learned my trade," he said.

"My personality is that I like to express myself, and that is not something I will look to change.

"Do you need an aggressive streak to thrive? You could say that. A lot of the great players have that mentality. I want to be the best I can, and if that's what I need to do it, that's what I do."

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said after the round-of-32 first leg that Alli, 19, still has "a lot to learn."
