Dele Alli has 'wow' factor and incredible confidence - Micky Hazard

Dele Alli was "born to play for Tottenham" and is similar to club legend Glenn Hoddle, ex-Spurs midfielder Micky Hazard has told ESPN FC.

Alli, who has taken the Premier League by storm since joining from MK Dons, scored his seventh league goal of the season in Tuesday's 3-0 win at Norwich.

The 19-year-old struck after only two minutes in East Anglia and is being widely tipped for an England starting place at Euro 2016.

And Hazard, who played for Spurs between 1978 and 1985, believes Alli was made for the biggest stage.

"What I love about Dele Alli is his incredible confidence in his own ability," he said. "He's walked into Tottenham Hotspur -- a massive jump from where he was -- and it's like he was born to be there, born to do the things he does.

"He does things that make you think: 'Wow.' His goal at Palace was absolutely incredible. To even think of that was incredible, and to produce it was amazing."

Hazard sees similarities between Alli and Hoddle, and feels he also has similar attributes to former Liverpool and Scotland star John Wark, a prolific goalscoring midfielder.

"He's a combination of players. He's a Hoddle and a Wark," he said. "He ghosts into goal-scoring positions and he's capable of hitting that telling pass -- not quite as regularly as Glenn, but he's capable. He's got a big future."

Alli is part of the youngest squad in the Premier League, with an average age of just over 23 and boasting academy graduates Harry Kane, Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb, Danny Rose and Joshua Onomah in the ranks.

Hazard said: "It tells me that Mauricio Pochettino is geared for long-term success not just short-term success.

"For long-term success, you need a conveyor belt of players coming through the academy. You can't just produce one and then wait 20 years. You've got to produce them year in, year out.

"Young players give the club its heart and soul. When you come through the youth set-up, you learn what it means to be a Spurs player -- the history of this great club. You can pass that on to the big name signings and they can pass on their knowledge of football to you."

Victory at Norwich moved Spurs into third, five points behind league leaders Leicester City, and Hazard sees no reason why Spurs cannot challenge for a first Premier League crown.

"What we've got is a great blend of youth and experience. It's the youngest team, and ultimately with each game comes more experience," he said. "We know Spurs are a good side, we know they're capable of winning games.

"We've been the best side this season. We've dominated 99 percent of the games we've played in."
