Mousa Dembele says Tottenham squad is the best he's played with

Tottenham's current squad is the best Mousa Dembele has ever played with, the midfielder says.

Spurs ran out to an emphatic 4-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday to consolidate their hold on fifth place in the Premier League and move just two points out of the top four.

And Dembele told Sky Sports that this Tottenham squad could be the first to qualify for the Champions League since the 2009-10 team.

"This is the best team I've played in since I've been at Tottenham," he said. "Pochettino is very much aware of the way we play, the way we press and our mentality. He is trying to change the culture of the club and that was needed.

"Every year you have to have the feeling to achieve the Champions League otherwise we should stop playing football.

"We know we have a lot of quality and we're closer than previous years.

However, the 28-year-old acknowledged there is still a long way to go despite their current form.

"We are not thinking too much ahead," he said. "We have a good feeling at the moment so we are capable of doing anything.

"We just need to stay strong and focused all the time instead of thinking about where we can end up."

When Harry Kane initially struggled to regain his scoring form from last season, Tottenham were able to spread the goals around, with Dembele, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld all scoring twice in the Premier League this season.

"We're playing very much as a team, something we haven't done much in the past," Dembele said. "It is not one or two players playing well, the team is playing well and that allows for someone if they have an off day -- it's a good thing."

Part of Spurs' success comes from their grass-roots efforts, with the CIES Football Observatory reporting that Tottenham have developed more current Premier League players than any other club.

Alli and Dier are part of 30 players in the Premier League who played in Tottenham's first team at one point before they turned 24.
