Tottenham Hotspur's Mousa Dembele optimistic despite injury setback

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is hopeful that the foot injury he sustained during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Everton will not keep him on the sidelines for too long.

Both sides had a player carried off on a stretcher at White Hart Lane, Everton's Tom Cleverley in clear pain after being felled by Eric Dier and Dembele following a bizarre self-inflicted injury.

Even upon viewing replays it was unclear exactly how 28-year-old Belgium midfielder Dembele had been hurt, although his right boot appeared to clip his left Achilles after he had passed the ball.

Dembele posted on Twitter on Sunday: "Pity we couldn't win yesterday. Let's hope the injury is not too bad. Thank you all for the support! #COYS.''

An update on the extent of the injury is expected on Monday.

Meanwhile, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said Toffees goalkeeper Tim Howard had put in the performance of the day as he kept a clean sheet with a string of fine saves.

Harry Kane, Ryan Mason and Toby Alderweireld were kept at bay in the first half, although Kane should have scored when through one-on-one against the American goalkeeper.

Pochettino told Tottenham's official website: "Tim Howard was man of the match -- that's the clear answer.''
