Kevin Wimmer 'very proud' to be wearing a Tottenham shirt

Tottenham new boy Kevin Wimmer said he felt "very proud" after enjoying for his first day as a Spurs player on Monday.

The 22-year-old Austria centre-back, who joined the north London club for £4 million from Cologne in late May, underwent routine preseason medical testing after arriving at Hotspur Way on Monday morning.

Wimmer then trained with his new teammates for the first time before speaking of his pride and his hopes for the future.

"It was always a dream for me to play for a club like this and to play in the Premier League," he said on www.tottenhamhotspur.com

"Now I'm here, to start training at such an amazing training centre, it's a very good feeling. For a footballer, it can't be better.

"It was such a good feeling to wear my new kit, with the Tottenham Hotspur logo, it makes me very proud.

"My first training session was very tough, but this is what pre-season is about!"

Despite finishing fifth and qualifying for the Europa League, Mauricio Pochettino's side had the joint-fifth worst defensive record in the Premier League last term, conceding 53 goals in 38 matches.

Wimmer added: "I'm really looking forward to the season because I'm enjoying it already on my first day. My teammates have all welcomed me -- they are all very nice and this is going to be a very good time for me."
