Harry Kane ready to win trophies, improve on Premier League breakout

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has stated that he wants to "win trophies and be one of the best players in the world" after speaking with boyish enthusiasm about his breakthrough season in the Premier League.

Kane was one of the shining stars of the last season in English football, as he made his mark in the Spurs' first team by scoring 31 goals and also made his mark with a goal on his debut for the senior England side.

The 21-year-old striker, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, spoke to reporters at the UEFA under-21 championships and when he was asked to sum up his ambitions as he looked to take his career to the next level he said: "To win trophies and be one of the best players in the world.

"The top players around the world are doing it week-in week-out, scoring goals and putting in great performances, and that's what I aim to achieve.

"I want to win trophies, not just for club, for country too. That's always been the aim and always will be.

"I proved to myself this season I can do it at the top level. That's always great confidence to have. Physically I have got stronger and get better.

"It doesn't stop here. This is just the start for me. I know what I have to do to keep improving."

As Kane reflected on his rise from relative obscurity to superstar status, his charm was evident. He suggested he struggled to comprehend the enormity of his achievements in 2015.

"I don't think what's happened this season has sunk in still. I've not had a chance to look back, but I've loved every minute of it.

"I've always wanted to be a player at a top club, starting week-in, week-out in the Premier League, playing against the big teams, playing in a cup final as we did this year [Capital One Cup], and playing for your country.

"I've managed to achieve that in a small amount of time, which has been crazy but great. I don't want it to stop. What I've got to do now is work hard to maintain it.

"There's been a lot of good moments for me this season that I'm proud of, and hopefully I can go on and do greater things."

Kane will be hoping to end his season on a high in the under-21 championships, with England facing a crucial game against Sweden on Sunday after a disappointing 1-0 defeat in their opening match against Portugal on Thursday.
