Tottenham deserved to hold on for win vs. Swansea, says Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said he felt his side deserved their victory on Wednesday, despite a nervy ending that nearly saw Swansea rally back from two down in the final minutes.

Nacer Chadli's early opener put Spurs on the right foot before Ki Sung-Yeung answered for Swansea. Tottenham went back ahead through second-half strikes from Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend, before Gylfi Sigurdsson's effort in the 89th minute brought the visitors within reach.

It then fell to Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris to make a remarkable diving save in the closing moments to preserve the victory.

"I'm happy for the players because they deserve this victory," Pochettino said. "It was a very important three points for us, I'm happy for the performance, it was fantastic.

"It was 3-2 but we shoot many times and had more than 60 percent possession -- only in the last minute did we put risk in the game.

"We were lucky to have a big save from Hugo -- one of the best 'keepers in world."

The scariest moment in the game, though, occurred shortly after Chadli's goal, when Swansea's Bafe Gomis collapsed on the pitch..

Swans boss Garry Monk said his striker was "fine" after the match, and Pochettino also took time in the post-match news conference to wish Gomis a "speedy recovery."

"A lot of years ago I had the same problem with teammate Oscar Garcia, who was manager of Watford and Brighton," he said. "It's a difficult moment because it's your life. Football is not important when something happens like that.

"I was a player on the pitch and it was Oscar Garcia was my teammate -- he fell and then it was the same situation, but he was OK."
