Toronto FC signs United States international striker Terrence Boyd

Toronto FC have signed United States international striker Terrence Boyd from German side Darmstadt, the club announced on Tuesday.

"We are excited to welcome Terrence and his family to the club," Toronto general manager Ali Curtis said in a statement.

"Terrence is a player that we've tracked for years during his time with the U.S. National Team and in Germany.

"He is an experienced, attacking player that is capable of scoring goals in MLS. We're looking forward to him joining our preseason and integrating himself into the group."

Boyd, 27, joins Toronto after the departures of star attackers Sebastian Giovinco and Victor Vazquez this offseason.

Born in Germany, Boyd has had spells at RB Leipzig and Austrian side Rapid Vienna.

At Darmstadt, Boyd scored five goals in 44 appearances.

At international level, Boyd has received 14 caps for the U.S. but only two since 2013.
