Now he's set to spurn Major League Soccer and a possible move to Europe to join the Cosmos in the second-tier North American Soccer League, the Times reported.

ESPN FC's Doug McIntyre weighs in on the United States' 3-2 loss to Denmark on Wednesday.

This story has been corrected. An earlier version quoted Ventura Alvarado as saying he had already spoken to Miguel Herrera. They have not spoken recently.

ZURICH -- Ventura Alvarado's 10-minute cameo against Denmark didn't tie him to the U.S. team, but the Mexican-American defender told ESPN FC on Friday that he's committed to representing the United States.

Wednesday's 3-2 loss in Aarhus was only a friendly, and Alvarado, a starter with Liga MX juggernaut Club America, remains eligible to play...

Former Germany coach Berti Vogts joins United States staff as adviser

The ESPN FC panel discuss the United States men's national team's recent struggles following their promising World Cup performance.

Berti Vogts has been pals with Jurgen Klinsmann for a long time, and now the former German national team coach will work alongside his former player in a long-term role.

Vogts was hired as technical adviser to the U.S. national team Thursday after serving as a special adviser before and during last year's World Cup.

In an interview last May, Vogts said he has known Klinsmann since he was 16 or 17.

"He was a winger and then I told him, 'Oh, that's not your best position, you have to play in the middle,'" Vogts...

Mix Diskerud's exclusion from the U.S. national team squad this week came as a surprise to Jason Kreis, the New York City FC coach said.

Diskerud, 24, was named to the World Cup squad last summer but was left off Jurgen Klinsman's team that lost to Denmark on Wednesday and will face Switzerland on Tuesday.

"I was very surprised, but you never know," Kreis said, according to MLSsoccer.com. "I don't know what the objectives of these two games are for the coach and what he's looking to achieve...
