ZURICH -- FIFA has denied Serbia's request to transfer former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic's international eligibility because he already played a World Cup qualifying match for Spain.

That appearance in September 2008 was the only time Bojan, 26, represented Spain, where he was born. The Stoke player's father is Serbian.

FIFA says it referred the Serbian football federation to two rules governing players' national team eligibility.

Spanish Football Federation president Villar's niece killed in Mexico

Angel Maria Villar has served on FIFA's executive committee since 1998.

The niece of Spanish Football Federation president Angel Maria Villar has been found dead after a botched abduction and ransom attempt, Spain's foreign minister confirmed on Tuesday.

Maria Villar Galaz, 36, was kidnapped on Sept. 13 and was forced to withdraw money from bank machines and demand money from her family to ensure her release, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo told radio station Onda Cero.
