Bafana's Baxter praises fighting spirit after Paraguay draw

South Africa coach Stuart Baxter has praised the fighting spirit of his players after they secured a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Paraguay in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday.

Percy Tau struck with virtually the last kick of the match after Federico Santander had put the visitors ahead in the first half. Both sides had spurned numerous opportunities in an entertaining match, with Paraguay also hitting the post twice.

Bafana grab late draw against Paraguay in Nelson Mandela Challenge

A much-changed South Africa scored in the dying seconds to claim a deserved 1-1 draw with South American visitors Paraguay in their Nelson Mandela Challenge clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday.

Bologna forward Federico Santander scored the opening goal of the game in the first half as both sides spurned further chances in wet and slippery conditions.

It took until the third minute of injury-time at the end of the game for the home side to equalise when talisman Percy Tau...

Bafana Bafana face balancing act for Paraguay test

Injury-hit South Africa go into Tuesday's international friendly against Paraguay in Durban facing a difficult balancing act as they seek to keep up the momentum built over the last few months.

Thembi Kgatlana of the Houston Dash struck a superb volley in their Africa Women Cup of Nations opener to see the South Africans past the team that has won 10 out of 12 editions of the tournament. It was Banyana's second-ever win over Nigeria since 1991.

But the result would not come as...

Mixed feelings for Bafana's Baxter after Nigeria draw

South Africa coach Stuart Baxter says he is "proud and frustrated" after his side played to a 1-1 draw with Nigeria at the FNB Stadium on Saturday to leave their participation at next year's Africa Cup of Nations in the balance.

Bafana Bafana fell behind to a Buhle Mkhwanazi own goal after only nine minutes, but equalized late in the first half through Lebo Mothiba after excellent work from Man of the Match Percy Tau.

That pleased Baxter, but he was frustrated that his players did not go for the...
