Malaysia lead Singapore, both rise four spots in latest FIFA rankings

Malaysia stayed two rungs above Singapore in the latest FIFA rankings as both nations climbed up.

Singapore moved up four spots in the latest FIFA rankings, but failed to bridge the gap on neigbours Malaysia, who rose by the same margin.

On back of their 0-0 draw away to Bahrain in AFC Asian Cup qualifying, Singapore went from 163rd to 159th. At the same time, Malaysia climbed to 157th after being 161st in March.

However, both nations are well below their average position since the FIFA rankings began, with Singapore currently 43 spots worse off than their 120th and Malaysia 37 runs inferior...

Philippines aim to forget AFF woes by qualifying for first Asian Cup

Captain Phil Younghusband says Philippines are determined to put the disappointment of last year's AFF Suzuki Cup behind them to qualify for their first-ever Asian Cup.

Despite co-hosting the tournament for the first time, the Azkals failed to win a game, and weren't able to progress beyond the group stage of November's Southeast Asian showcase.

But they made a triumphant start to their 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign by beating Nepal 4-1 in their third-round opener on Tuesday night.

Phil Younghusband netted a two minute first-half brace to propel Philippines to a 4-1 victory over 10-man Nepal in Group F of AFC Asian Cup qualifiers at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.

Australian-born Iain Ramsay and Javier Patino also got on the scoresheet to secure the Azkals a comfortable victory, which gives them a temporary lead in the group also containing Tajikistan and Yemen.
