Neither game will live too long in our memories, but each served its purpose, even without usual starters Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Jesus "Tecatito" Corona, Hector Herrera, Hector Moreno, Miguel Layun and Andres Guardado -- all of whom were left back in Europe to rest up ahead...

Aging warrior Oribe Peralta scores as Hirving Lozano sparks Mexico to win

ESPN FC's Tom Marshall and Katia Castorena assess Giovani dos Santos' role in Mexico's crucial 1-0 victory over Panama.

CHICAGO -- Mexico defeated Panama 1-0 on Tuesday in front of 19,017 fans at Toyota Park in El Tri's last friendly before the start of the Hexagonal stage of World Cup qualifying against the United States in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 11.

Here are three takes from the match:

1. Lozano sparks Mexico to victory

This wasn't a game to set the pulse racing, with both sides fielding alternative teams to the ones we are likely to see when the two meet in Panama City on Nov. 15.
