Morocco move on with Herve Renard following Badou Ezaki exit

Morocco, under new coach Herve Renard, have sealed a place at the African Nations Cup.

It seemed harsh when Badou Ezaki was forced from his job as coach of Morocco at the turn of the year after winning his first two matches in the African Nations Cup qualifiers and also ensuring the country a berth in the final stages of the 2018 World Cup preliminaries.

But the appointment of flamboyant Frenchman Herve Renard had precipitated the arrival of several new recruits and very quickly delivered for Morocco a definitive berth in the next Nations Cup finals.

A double win over the last four...

Nigeria lose to Egypt, fail to qualify for 2017 African Nations Cup

Mohamed Saleh and Egypt have eliminated Stanley Amuzie and Nigeria from next year's African Nations Cup.

Nigeria will not be competing at the 2017 African Nations Cup after losing 1-0 to Egypt on Tuesday.

Ramadan Sobhy took advantage of a missed clearance to put Egypt atop qualifying Group G at Borg El-Arab Stadium, where a longstanding ban on fans attending games in large numbers in Egypt was temporarily lifted.

Nigeria faced a must-win game after Chad withdrew from their group earlier this week. Under CAF's rules, all of Chad's previous results are thrown out, leaving Nigeria with just two points...

Cameroon move top of ANC qualifying group after South Africa draw

Cameroon will be looking to avoid any missteps in their quest for African Nations' Cup qualification.
Cameroon sit top of Group M following Saturday's draw with South Africa.

Cameroon moved top of Group M after securing a 2-2 draw against South Africa in their 2017 African Nations Cup qualifying clash on Saturday.

South Africa had taken the lead through Tokelo Rantie, only for Sebastien Siani to level for the hosts just before the break.

And Cameroon recovered from a losing position again in the second half after Kekana Hlompo had fired the visitors back into the lead -- scoring a screamer from inside his own half -- with Nicolas N'Koulou then grabbing a 67th-minute...

Cameroon, Morocco turn to European bosses Broos and Renard for guidance

Herve Renard
Herve Renard is among a long list of French managers to find success in Africa.

There were two weighty news conferences in African football this week as both Cameroon and Morocco unveiled the identity of their new national team coaches.

Hugo Broos was introduced on Thursday as the new man at the helm of the Indomitable Lions, marking his entry to the African arena after years of success in his native Belgium, at a pomp-filled contract-signing ceremony in Yaounde, complete with the playing of the national anthem. Morocco had earlier in this week unveiled Herve Renard as their...

Herve Renard takes over as Morocco manager

Herve Renard will try his luck with a third African nation.

Herve Renard has been named as the new coach of Morocco.

The 47-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed success on two previous spells in African football, winning the African Nations Cup with Zambia in 2012 and the Ivory Coast in 2015.

He has failed to replicate that success domestically in his homeland, tasting relegation with Sochaux in 2014 and lasting only 13 games as Lille coach this season before being sacked.

Renard said in an introductory press conference reported by L'Equipe: "The [Royal Moroccan...
