Panama booked its place in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Martinique in Cleveland on Saturday.

Michael Murillo, Abdiel Arroyo and Gabriel Torres had the goals as the Central American nation finished second in Group B behind the United States on the goals scored tiebreaker.

Panama's result, played before the U.S. kicked off, also ensured the tournament hosts, Mexico and Jamaica advanced to the knockout stage. Costa Rica, Canada and Honduras all advanced from Group A on Friday.

U.S. hangs on to beat Martinique in Gold Cup via Jordan Morris' two goals

Bruce Arena gives credit to a few players for performing well versus Martinique, despite the U.S.'s lack of cutting edge.
Omar Gonzalez was pleased to get on the scoresheet, but was upset with the United States' defensive frailties.

Three thoughts from the United States' nervy 3-2 win over Martinique in Gold Cup Group B:

1. U.S. flounders in narrow win

While Wednesday's victory is enough to send the U.S. to the top of Group B, this was a floundering performance from a side that nearly did the unthinkable and play to a draw after having a two-goal lead in the second half against an inferior opponent.

The best friend that the U.S. could have had on Wednesday was an early goal, but by the 20th minute it was evident that...

Bruce Arena gives credit to a few players for performing well versus Martinique, despite the U.S.'s lack of cutting edge.

The United States needed three second-half goals to see off Martinique 3-2 in its second Group B match at the 2017 Gold Cup.

Bruce Arena made eight changes from the lineup that opened with a disappointing 1-1 tie against Panama last weekend, including giving Diego Roldan his U.S. debut.

The second goal of a Jordan Morris double helped the Americans avoid an embarrassing defeat despite fielding a side missing many of its senior team members.

"We're certainly guilty of making the game a lot more...

Jordy Delem a success story for tiny Martinique, who take on U.S. next

Bruce Arena reiterates the U.S.' need for an improved performance, their recovery tactics, and impressions of Martinique.
USMNT midfielder Kellyn Acosta discusses the team's preparations ahead of the crucial Gold Cup game vs. Martinique.
The Gold Cup matters when it comes to the likes of Jordy Delem, eager and hungry for a chance at getting noticed.

The first time Jordy Delem ever visited the United States, as a teenager and with his family, he gazed in awe at New York City's skyscrapers and was struck by a pervasive thought. I wish I could stay here.

For an island kid from the Martinique capital of Fort-de-France, few dreams could have been more outlandish. Yet less than six years later, thanks to his soccer talent and the helping hand of a benevolent coach -- albeit on the opposite coast from the Manhattan high-rises of his adolescent...

Martinique began their 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign in style, defeating Nicaragua 2-0 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on Saturday.

Les Matinino's all-time leading goalscorer Kevin Parsemain opened the scoring for Louis Marianne's side in the 35th minute, nodding in Johan Audel's cross following a corner.

Steeven Langil then doubled Martinique's advantage just after the hour mark, firing home after another fine feed from Audel.

Martinique will now play tournament hosts the United States on Thursday,...
