Slovakia scored three times in the first half as they cruised to a 4-0 home victory over Lithuania in World Cup Qualifying European Group F.

Two goals in quick succession put the hosts firmly in control early on as Adam Nemec converted a header in the 12th minute and then teed up a strike from outside the box by Juraj Kucka in the 15th.

Martin Skrtel added another in the 36th with a close-range finish and Marek Hamsik's strike then wrapped things up with four minutes to go.

Scotland struggled to create chances from open play in the first half and fell behind in the 59th minute after Fedor Cernych played a one-two with Vykintas Slivka to get away from Grant Hanley and bury his shot behind David Marshall.

Former Scottish international Steve Nicol says Scotland failed to put Lithuania under pressure in their 1-1 draw.

Substitute James McArthur rescued a World Cup point for Scotland with a late headed equaliser against Lithuania at Hampden.

Scotland made an edgy start against the fifth seeds and fell behind in the 59th minute when Fedor Cernych got away from Grant Hanley with the help of a one-two and finished clinically.

Scotland's forward players were lacking creativity but midfielder McArthur headed home in the 89th minute following a long throw.

The point could prove crucial but failure to add to four previous...
