FIFA bans Palestine FA president for inciting Lionel Messi hatred

The president of the Palestinian Football Association has been banned from all football activity for the next year after calling on fans to burn jerseys and pictures of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Israel hire former USMNT assistant Andreas Herzog as head coach

Former United States national team assistant Andreas Herzog is set to be appointed Israel coach, the Israeli FA said on Wednesday.

Vienna-born Herzog began his coaching career in 2005 as Austria's caretaker coach before taking up the assistant's role, and then leading the under-21s.

He was assistant to U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann from 2011-16 and also coached the under-23s as they attempted to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

Argentina Football Association (AFA) president Claudio Tapia has apologised to Israelis for the cancellation of Saturday's international friendly but maintained it was the right decision because of the threatening atmosphere surrounding the match.

The game, Argentina's final warm-up before the World Cup, was to be played in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Malha, which is situated on the site of a former Palestinian village that was destroyed during the war that established Israel 70 years ago.
