Holders Germany knocked out of Women's Euro; England advance

Denmark pull off the remarkable upset by beating the six-time defending champions Germany 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

A late Denmark winner saw holders Germany eliminated from Women's Euro 2017 in the quarterfinals.

Germany, seeking their seventh European trophy in a row, took the lead through Isabel Kerschowski after only three minutes.

But an equaliser four minutes into the second half from Nadia Nadim gave Denmark new belief, and Theresa Nielsen sealed their win with a header inside the final 10 minutes.

Germany win first-ever ABBA penalty shootout in Women's Under-17 semis

Alejandro Moreno delves into UEFA's new 'ABBA' penalty shootout system which will be tested at the European U-17 Championships.

The "ABBA" penalty shootout system was used for the first time on Thursday as part of a trial sanctioned by football's lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

UEFA opted to test it at the both the men's and women's European Under-17 Championship this month, and the women's semifinal between Germany and Norway was the first tie to go to penalty kicks.

Germany came out on top 3-2 on spot kicks to go through to the final, where they will meet Spain.

Jerome Boateng: I'm proud to be German despite racist comments

Germany defender Jerome Boateng said he was "sad" to be the victim of a racist comment from a German politician on Sunday.

Alexander Gauland of Germany's right-wing Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) party said in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung on Sunday that he would "not want to have Boateng as a neighbour."

After representing his country for the 58th time in a 3-1 defeat to Slovakia on Sunday, the 27-year-old expressed his disappointment at Gauland's remarks.

Jerome Boateng is the latest Bayern Munich player to suffer a long-term injury.
The Bayern Munich defender has 58 caps for Germany.
