Barcelona star Arturo Vidal's son become social media star with help from Lionel Messi

It would appear that greatness runs in Arturo Vidal's family after the Barcelona midfielder's eldest son, Alonso, was bestowed with a prestigious social media award.

Alonso -- or "Monito" as he is known to his followers -- was voted the best YouTuber in Chile by La Cuarta newspaper after scoring millions of hits with his videos.

Indeed, the youngster's VIP guided tour of his new bedroom at Vidal's house in Barcelona was watched by more than 360,000 people.

This was enough to earn him the Copihue...

Mexico made key strides in respectable last-minute loss to Chile

Here are three thoughts from Mexico's 1-0 loss to Chile in Tuesday's international friendly:

1. Late goal shouldn't overshadow hard-fought match

There was no 7-0 for Chile and there was no revenge for Mexico. Instead, an intense "friendly" between two sides that played as if points were at stake and in which a late Nicolas Castillo goal was the difference.

Mexico goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez looked to be heading for the man-of-the-match after one fine save in each half, but should've done better...

Reinaldo Rueda hopes to ease Chile's transition from the Vidal and Sanchez generation

Reinaldo Rueda's difficult task is to keep Chile relevant while transitioning away from the country's golden generation.
Reinaldo Rueda's difficult task is to keep Chile relevant while transitioning away from the country's golden generation.

Outside of Brazil and Argentina, there is a traditional tale with the other South American nations -- one generation and out.

Peru, for example, struggled for years to replace the Teofilo Cubillas generation of the 1970s. It was the same story with Colombia and the Carlos Valderrama-led team of the late '80s and early '90s. Paraguay have found it hard to follow the Roque Santa Cruz team. And now it's Chile's turn.

Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez and company formed the most brilliant and victorious...

After World Cup failure, what now for Italy, U.S., Chile and Netherlands?

Brad Guzan joins Taylor Twellman in the ESPN FC Heineken Boot Room bus to talk all angles of the USMNT's World Cup qualifying debacle.

The choice of manager to replace Giampiero Ventura. Unable to elect a new president, the FIGC is under the emergency supervision of CONI, Italy's Olympic Committee. Alessandro Costacurta has the job of picking the new coach -- and setting the agenda of reform --...

Chile national team in state of flux after missing 2018 World Cup

The critics are already out on Man United's latest big money signing Alexis Sanchez, who has struggled as of yet to make a splash at his new club.

The 2022 World Cup starts in Scandinavia for Chile, who will play their first matches under new coach Reinaldo Rueda against Sweden and Denmark in the next few days.

"The players have a challenge ahead of them," Rueda said earlier this month. "They have to replace and aim to equal the feats of a historic generation for the national team."

The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal are still around, for the time being, as is Gary Medel and Mauricio Isla. Those four came through the 2007 Under-20...
