A-League, W-League games at risk ahead of record-high temperatures

A-League chiefs are anxiously watching the weekend's weather forecast in Melbourne, with a re-think needed ahead of a bumper day of football.

A forecast 41-degree day could see A-League and W-League matches shifted to later in the day, moved to different venues, or postponed.

At this stage, the FFA hopes all games can go ahead with drinks breaks, with a forecast "wet bulb globe temperature" falling marginally below their heat policy guideline on rescheduling fixtures.

If the extreme heat forces change,...

Sam Kerr's quest for world No. 1 depends on the Matildas - Despotovski

Sky Blues' Sam Kerr has continued her amazing goal streak, kicking her 16th goal of the season, equaling the single-season record set by Kim Little in 2014.

Perth Glory great Bobby Despotovski reckons Sam Kerr will be rated the best female player in the world one day, but says Australia needs to play more high-quality internationals for her to be recognised.

Kerr has taken the football world by storm over the past 12 months, winning a swag of individual and team awards on the back of her goalscoring feats.

The 24-year-old's brilliance helped the Matildas win the Tournament of Nations, and she also set a new goalscoring record in America's National Women's...

Samantha Kerr, Matildas aiming to gain No. 1 ranking, respect from world

Sky Blues' Sam Kerr has continued her amazing goal streak, kicking her 16th goal of the season, equaling the single-season record set by Kim Little in 2014.

Australia's national women's soccer team has enjoyed quite the year, climbing from eighth to sixth on the FIFA World Rankings, with the expectation of cracking the top five once again when the new list is released in mid-December.

The Matildas posted a historic win over the U.S. as they claimed the Tournament of Nations title in July, and they put an exclamation mark on their year with a comprehensive 5-1 win over China in November that extended their winning run to seven matches. Despite that triumphant...

Australia drawn with Japan, South Korea in Women's Asian Cup

The Matildas celebrate Samantha Kerr's goal.
The Matildas will face Australia, South Korea and Vietnam at the 2018 Asian Cup.

Australia are already Women's Asian Cup favourites, but coach Alen Stajcic is expecting "no easy moments" after drawing reigning champions Japan.

Perennial threats South Korea and Vietnam also lie in wait in Jordan next April, when the Matildas will play for silverware and a spot at the 2019 Women's World Cup.

Based on recent results, the Matildas should progress to the semifinals as one of the top two in Group B, though they will have their work cut out against Japan and Korea in particular.

Stakeholders willing to fund Australia's Women's World Cup bid

The FC crew explain why Australia's outlook at the World Cup is dreary after being drawn with France, Peru and Denmark.
Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts evaluate Australia's World Cup group and assess whether they or any other Asian teams can progress.

Australian football's stakeholders will fund the Women's World Cup bid themselves if the money is not forthcoming from the federal government, says Football NSW chairman Anter Isaac.

Speaking on Monday night -- hours before FIFA's member associations committee was due to meet on the status of Football Federation Australia -- Isaac revealed he took time last week to explain to the NSW government the acrimonious fallout that could see the world governing body in charge of Australian football by the...
