Zlatan Ibrahimovic opts to miss Sweden friendly with Turkey - Hamren

Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic has opted to miss his side's friendly with Turkey on Friday, according to coach Erik Hamren.

Ibrahimovic, 34, scored 11 goals in 10 Euro 2016 qualifying games to help Sweden reach Euro 2016 this summer, but Hamren has been looking to reduce the Paris Saint-Germain striker's workload and offered him the chance to skip the match on March 25.

"For a while I have been thinking about what I can do to preserve his form until the summer," Hamren told a news conference. "I can't affect how much he plays at Paris, but I have offered him the opportunity to skip the match in Turkey.

"Zlatan accepted the offer today, he will not play against Turkey. I think that is good for him, and in the end also good for the team. It is a way of trying to maintain his superb form until the Euros this summer."

Sweden, who were drawn in Group E with Ireland, Italy and Belgium, will have Ibrahimovic back for the home game against the Czech Republic on March 29.
