Paul Clement tipped to be a success at Swansea by Bayern's Manuel Neuer

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has backed Paul Clement to succeed at Swansea City and "can understand" his move from the Bundesliga champions to the Premier League strugglers.

Clement served as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant for 329 games, winning trophies at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

But after just six months as Ancelotti's No. 2 at Bayern, the English coach opted to take up the challenge of keeping Swansea in the Premier League.

"It's a shame for us that he's not here anymore but of course I can understand Paul Clement's view that he wanted to accept the offer from the Premier League," Neuer told The Set Pieces.

"We know that he was a great guy, who helped us a lot as a team. He took on a lot of responsibility [at Bayern], he talked a lot with the players and I think he'll be able to help Swansea."

Clement replaced former United States coach Bob Bradley as Swansea manager earlier this month, with the club rooted to the bottom of the table.

But Clement's side became the first team to win at Anfield this season, beating Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool 3-2 on Saturday to move out of the relegation zone for the first time in over a month.

Neuer added: "We are all keeping our fingers crossed for him now that he's taking up a role as a head coach in the Premier League."
