Garry Monk signs new three-year Swansea City contract

Swansea have announced that manager Garry Monk has signed a new contract until 2018.

Monk, 36, had two years remaining on the three-year deal he had signed when made the club's permanent manager in May 2014.

Swans chairman Huw Jenkins, who had said he expected Monk to commit to a new deal last month, told the club's official website: "As a club we are pleased to agree the new contract with Garry.

"It's deserved reward for the fantastic season we've just had and all Garry's hard work, commitment and loyalty to our football club over many years.

"We also feel it is vital to have stability within our football club, especially with Garry going into such a big season where the reward for remaining within the Barclays Premier League is going to be greater than ever in terms of finance and global exposure."

Monk, who had spent a decade at the club as a player before taking the reins, had initially replaced Michael Laudrup as interim boss in February 2014 and guided the club to a 12th-place finish that season.

They finished eighth last season, one place behind the final Europa League qualification spot.
