Sunderland's Papy Djilobodji handed four-match ban for violent conduct

Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji has been banned for four matches after being found guilty of violent conduct, the Football Association has announced.

In a statement, English football's governing body said: "Papy Djilobodji will serve a four-match suspension with immediate effect after his violent conduct charge was found proven."

Earlier this week, Press Association Sport reported that Djilobodji had denied the chargeĀ and would plead his case before an independent regulatory commission hearing.

It related to an incident involving West Bromwich Albion skipper Darren Fletcher during Sunderland's Premier League defeat at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

He has been handed a four-game ban because he was sent off against Hull for two bookable offences earlier in the season.

Match referee Craig Pawson did not see Saturday's incident, but Djilobodji was later charged with the help of video evidence.

The defender has endured a difficult first few months on Wearside, although Lamine Kone's departure for the African Nations Cup left manager David Moyes with few options at the back.
