David Moyes 'disappointed' with Adnan Januzaj after red card for Sunderland

Sunderland manager David Moyes felt let down by Adnan Januzaj after he was sent off in their 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Januzaj, on loan from Manchester United, received two yellow cards at White Hart Lane -- the first for dissent and the second for a foul on Ben Davies in the 89th minute.

Moyes said in the Sunderland Echo: "I was disappointed with Adnan, but I was also disappointed with the referee.

"It should have been a free kick to us on the edge of the box -- you could see he was having his jersey pulled.

"He didn't give it and Adnan should not have spoken back to the referee. The second yellow could have been a yellow, could be.

"I've seen that one back on television and it looks worse on the television than it does stood pitchside. It didn't look an awful lot at pitchside.

"I think [the first yellow] he had a case for his disapproval."

Moyes was also asked about the late decision to bring Jason Denayer into the starting lineup in place of Patrick van Aanholt, a question he reacted angrily to.

He said: "For medical reasons we chose to withdraw him. I won't follow up if you don't mind.

"I'd like to be straight [with you]. We advised the referee very late on. I got word of something very late. People can get injured in the warm-up.

"It meant we had to change. We got Jason Denayer some game time. Javier Manquillo went to the left and did OK. So from that point of view we did what we thought was the right thing to do."
