Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat to make decision over future

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat says he will make a quick decision about whether to stay at the club, after ensuring they survived to play in the Premier League next season.

The club lost 3-1 to Chelsea on the final day, but had already secured their safety with a 0-0 draw at Arsenal in midweek.

Advocaat, who took over from the sacked Gus Poyet in March, revealed that he had yet to accept Sunderland's offer of a new contract, but that he would let the club know shortly.

"I have to be honest to myself and to everybody about what I will do for the future," he said. "They offered me already two or three years."

Asked when he will make his decision, the Dutchman, who cried when sealing their survival at the Emirates, added: "As quickly as possible, because the club must know. They have to go on as well. One way or the other way.

"There's no sense to discuss it now. Let's wait until next week and then I'll make the decision."

Speaking about the Chelsea defeat, Advocaat felt his side did not deserve to lose by a two-goal margin.

"There was no need to lose 3-1 because we had enough opportunities to score,'' he added. "For me it was important to see a team that was free of relegation, fear and that they were not scared to do something.''
