Bayern Munich to sign Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart at end of season
Bayern Munich have confirmed that Benjamin Pavard will join on a five-year deal from Stuttgart at the end of the season.
Pavard, 22, has been linked with Bundesliga champions Bayern since winning the World Cup with France last summer and will complete a move in July after a €35 million release clause was triggered.
"We are delighted, proud and happy that we won over Benjamin Pavard for Bayern Munich," sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told reporters at the club's winter training camp in Qatar. "He's a really good player, can play on many positions."
Pavard joined then-second tier club Stuttgart from Lille in 2016, and after 21 matches in his first season featured in all Bundesliga matches last term.
Following an outstanding debut season in Germany's upper tier, Pavard has struggled this term, just like Stuttgart.
In mid-December, he suffered a muscle injury when scoring an own goal in a 3-0 defeat at Gladbach and has been sidelined since.
Last summer, he started and finished six of France's seven World Cup matches and scored in the round of 16 win against Argentina.
Pavard is Bayern's first signing for the 2019-2020 season.
The club have also been linked with Atletico defender Lucas Hernandez and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
