Liverpool striker Divock Origi joins Wolfsburg on loan

Wolfsburg have signed Belgium striker Divock Origi on loan from Liverpool, the Premier League club have confirmed.

It is reported that Wolfsburg will pay €3 million to take the player for the season and have no option to make the deal permanent. Liverpool paid French side Lille £10m to sign Origi in July 2014 when he was still a teenager.

Origi's father told La Derniere Heure this week that his son needed to leave Anfield to secure regular first-team football after finding himself behind Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the pecking order.

The 22-year-old, who scored seven goals in 34 competitive matches for Liverpool last term, managed just nine minutes of action in the first month of the season and Origi now hopes to win crucial minutes ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Divock Origi is hoping to secure a place in Belgium's squad for next summer's World Cup.

Wolfsburg started their season with a 3-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund but recovered with a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt the following week.

Last term, the 2015 DFB Pokal winners stayed up after overcoming second-tier club Eintracht Braunschweig in the relegation/promotion playoffs.

Wolfsburg had already tried to sign Origi before his move to Anfield in 2014. Marseille, Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen had also been reported to have shown an interest in Origi.

Reports in England said Liverpool have a clause to recall the striker in January.
