Real Madrid's Philipp Lienhart to join Freiburg - Christian Streich

Philipp Lienhart has been a regular for Madrid's Castilla side.

Freiburg are close to signing Austria under-21 defender Philipp Lienhart from Real Madrid, coach Christian Streich has said.

Lienhart, 20, has been a regular for Madrid's Castilla youth side since joining from Rapid Vienna in 2015 but has made only one senior appearance.

Streich told Sky Sport a deal was in place but not yet confirmed, and that Lienhart's experience in Spain should be a positive.

"It will work, and that's great," he said. "He's an Austrian U21 player who has been at Madrid for some time and learned a lot there.

"He'll join us highly motivated. Those are the right ones for us, those who still must and want to learn a lot."

Leinhart will become the latest player to leave Castilla following failure to gain promotion from the third tier last season.

Uruguay youth international Fede Valverde has joined Deportivo La Coruna on loan, and Enzo Zidane has completed a permanent move to Alaves.
