Cologne confident Jonas Hector won't join Chelsea

Cologne coach Peter Stoger is not "losing any sleep" over reported interest in Germany international Jonas Hector from Chelsea this January.

On Tuesday, The Times claimed that Hector has once again become a transfer target for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who had already been linked with the left-back last summer.

However, back then, Hector opted to stay at Cologne and renew his contract through to 2021 with Liverpool also said to have been interested.

"I am not losing any sleep," Stoger told reporters, and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke added that Hector will not leave the club.

"And we want Chelsea's Kurt Zouma, a great centre-back. But sadly, we won't get him," Schmadtke added in Express.

Hector, who can also operate as a wing-back or holding midfielder, played every minute for Germany at Euro 2016, joined Cologne's reserves as a 20-year-old from fifth division side SV Auersmacher, where he played the No.10 position.

His ability to find space has been compared with that of Germany international teammate Thomas Muller.

"I know where I have to be to have the ball passed to me," Hector told 11 Freunde magazine in 2016, adding that "I might still have it in my blood as someone who has played the No. 10 position."
