Jonathan Tah wants Bayer Leverkusen stay despite Liverpool talk

Jonathan Tah has told Sport Bild he is happy at Bayer Leverkusen and has no plans to leave the Bundesliga club despite links with Liverpool.

Germany international Tah, 20, has been linked with a switch to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his defence.

However, the centre-back, one of Leverkusen's most consistent players since arriving from Hamburg in 2015, said Klopp had not made contact and that he has no interest in a move at present.

"I am very happy at Bayer Leverkusen," Tah said. "I don't want to leave."

Jonathan Tah has become a full Germany international since arriving at Bayer Leverkusen.

While players like Andre Schurrle and Son Heung-Min have left Leverkusen for the Premier League in recent years, Tah rejected the suggestion the club should be seen as a stepping stone.

He said: "We have reached the last 16 in the Champions League, and if somebody wants to call it a stepping stone, I can only say: You can't ask for much more."

However, Leverkusen face an uphill battle to return to next season's Champions League.

Following a mediocre first-half of the season, Roger Schmidt's side sit ninth in the Bundesliga ahead of the Ruckrunde -- second half of the season -- and trail fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt by eight points. Dortmund, who occupy the last Europa League qualification place, are six points ahead.

"It's clear that I want to play in the Champions League. We need to play a good Ruckrunde to reach this goal," Tah said, adding that he is not thinking about what will happen if Leverkusen fail to qualify.

Tah said: "I still have the expectation and the conviction that we will play in Europe next season."
