DeAndre Yedlin arrives in Newcastle ahead of reported move from Spurs

United States defender DeAndre Yedlin has arrived in Newcastle ahead of a move from Tottenham.

Sources close to the club told ESPN FC earlier on Tuesday that the Magpies are ready to compete with Sunderland and Aston Villa for Yedlin, and the Newcastle Chronicle published video of him arriving at the airport on Tyneside.

The 23-year-old then attended Newcastle's EFL Cup match against Cheltenham Town.

Multiple reports said the 23-year-old was also having a medical with Newcastle after the clubs agreed a £5 million transfer fee.

Yedlin was behind Kyle Walker in the pecking order at Tottenham since his move from the Seattle Sounders in 2014, and he has been linked to a permanent move away from the club this summer, with Villa leading the chase.

He spent last season on loan at Newcastle's local rivals Sunderland, making 23 Premier League appearances as they narrowly avoided relegation.

Yedlin made just one substitute appearance for Tottenham following his move from Seattle, though he also played for Spurs in the 2015 MLS All-Star Game and the International Champions Cup last month.

DeAndre Yedlin watched Newcastle take on Cheltenham Town on Tuesday.

The American would become the latest addition to a Newcastle squad which has been overhauled by manager Rafael Benitez in the wake of relegation from the Premier League.

Yedlin could find playing time at Newcastle as sources told ESPN FC on Monday that West Ham and Watford are eyeing a move to sign defender Daryl Janmaat before the close of the transfer window.

The Magpies have also been linked with Brentford midfielder Alan Judge, who is currently working his way back from a leg fracture.

Meanwhile, Newcastle defender Kevin Mbabu is to return to his native Switzerland to spend the season on loan at BSC Young Boys.

Information from Press Association was used in this report.
