Leicester signing Ron-Robert Zieler delighted with Premier League move

Germany goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler has moved to Leicester City from Hannover.

Ron-Robert Zieler says he did not have to consider his transfer to Premier League champions Leicester City for too long.

Leicester triggered a €3.5 million clause in Zieler's contract at Hannover last week and the Germany goalkeeper, who has not been selected for the 2016 Euro, signed a four-year deal at the King Power Stadium.

The former Manchester City academy player has now told Bild that he felt the offer from Leicester was right and that he is ready to compete with Kasper Schmeichel for the starting spot between the posts.

"There were a few enquiries from Bundesliga, also from clubs abroad," Zieler, who was relegated at Hannover last term, told Bild. "Then I received the offer from Leicester and did not have to consider it for too long."

Speculations over his transfer away from Hannover began in early 2016, and at one point Zieler was linked with a return to Manchester City. However, as time ran out to trigger his release clause until the end of May, it appeared that no club wanted to activate it.

But Zieler said he did not have any worries.

"Fear is the wrong word," he said, when asked if he feared there might not be a market for him.

"Football is no picnic. I've learned in my career that you need to be patient. It was important to me to not find a quick solution, but rather a sensible one. I think the English champions are a very sensible solution."

The Germany international will fight it out with Kasper Schmeichel for a starting spot at Leicester and Zieler has vowed that he will not settle for the bench without a fight.

"Whoever knows me knows that I want to play as much as possible," Zieler said. "Kasper Schmeichel has played a very strong season, you have to admit that. But in the talks with those responsible it was substantiated that it will be an open race. I will face this challenge."
