Leicester City sign Ron-Robert Zieler from Hannover on four-year deal

Ron-Robert Zieler was part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup.

Leicester City have signed Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler for an undisclosed fee.

Zieler, 27, has joined the Premier League champions and signed a four-year deal at the King Power Stadium. He was reported to have had a €3.5 million release clause in his contract with his former side.

The Germany international, who said he would leave Hannover after they were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, is looking forward to life at his new club.

"It feels great coming to Leicester and joining the club after they've had such a great season -- it's really nice to be part of the club now," Zieler told Leicester's official website.

"I've been shown around the training ground and it looks very good and I've been to the stadium -- I heard about the great atmosphere and the great fans, so my first impression is very good."

Zieler brings vital experience to Leicester ahead of their maiden Champions League campaign, having made more than 200 appearances for Hannover and been part of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning squad.

He will fight it out with Kasper Schmeichel for a starting spot at Leicester, with the Denmark international enjoying a fine 2015-16 campaign that saw him keep 15 clean sheets in the Premier League.

Leicester have opened talks with Schmeichel over a new long-term deal, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.

Zieler joined Hannover from Manchester United's reserves in 2010 and so will link up with former Red Devils teammates Danny Simpson, Danny Drinkwater, Matty James and Ritchie De Laet at the King Power Stadium.

During his time at Hannover, Zieler helped the club to four top-10 finishes and a run to the Europa League quarterfinals in 2012.
