Barcelona strike Douglas deal
Barcelona have agreed to sign right-back Douglas from Brazilian side Sao Paulo, with a deal worth 5.5 million euros to be confirmed subject to a medical.
Blaugrana figures Antoni Rossich, Raul Sanllehi and Andre Cury were in Brazil to do the deal this week, with the uncapped Douglas, 24, now set to provide competition at right-back for compatriot Dani Alves, 31, and home-grown Martin Montoya, 23.
The agreement should take Barca's summer outlay to around 155 million euros, with the Catalan club stocking up on players due to the one-year transfer ban imposed on the club by FIFA.
Barca's statement on the transfer said the initial fee would be four million euros, with a further 1.5 million to be paid should he make a certain number of first-team appearances.
"Barcelona and Sao Paulo FC have reached an initial agreement for the transfer of Douglas Pereira," the statement said. "The deal will cost Barça four million Euros with performance variables of another one and a half million based on games blocks.
"Douglas will travel to Barcelona for a medical at the end of this week, when he will also put pen to paper on a five-year deal and be officially presented as the club's latest summer signing.
"The 24-year-old Douglas is a pacy right wing back who after three seasons, 75 appearances and five goals for his home town club of Goias signed for Sao Paolo in 2012. Over the last three seasons, Douglas has played 95 matches for Sao Paolo and scored four goals."
Barca had been expected to sign a right-back this summer, with a move for Fiorentina's Juan Cuadrado widely talked about as the Colombian was starring at the World Cup in Brazil.
Douglas' name appeared on the radar more recently, and came as a surprise given his relatively low-profile through recent seasons in the Brazilian championship.
Marca have reported third-party investment group Traffic held a 40 percent share in Douglas' "rights." Traffic was also involved in Barca's ill-fated 2009 deals for Keirrison and Henrique, which cost club about 22 million euros although neither player made any impression at Camp Nou.
