Rummenigge praises Marco Reus

Bayern Munich CEO Karl Heinz Rummenigge discusses Pep Guardiola, new signings, Marco Reus' future and his expectations for the team this coming season.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has further fuelled speculation his club could make a move for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus.

- Pepe Reina set for Bayern move
- Guardiola rules out Boateng sale

Rummenigge had already spoken openly about Reus in Welt am Sonntag, refusing to rule out a move for the Germany international when the release clause in his contract becomes active next summer.

The value of that clause was widely reported to be 35 million euros, but Rummenigge believes it may actually be lower.

"It's common knowledge that he is a Borussia Dortmund player and that he has a release clause, which, rumour has it, is worth 25 million euros," Rummenigge told Sport Bild magazine. "Without any doubt, he's a very good player."

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had previously said that Reus wanted to stay at the Westfalenstadion and, in response to Rummenigge's earlier remark that BVB may struggle to renegotiate the player's contract, had told Bild: "I don't know what motivates him to show so much concern for Dortmund."

Nonetheless, Rumminegge told Sport Bild that he did not want to provoke BVB.

"By saying that, I don't want to strain our relationship with Borussia Dortmund," he added. "They recently responded wisely and kindly to a video of Bastian Schweinsteiger when they could easily have used different words.

"I have a very respectful relationship with Hans-Joachim Watzke. I cannot make any predictions today for next year. I don't know what players we are going to need for the season after next."

Bayern have already signed two of Dortmund's key players of recent years, having triggered a release clause in Mario Gotze's contract in 2013 before bringing in Robert Lewandowski on a Bosman transfer this summer.
