Arturo Vidal must stay at Juve - Tevez

Juventus forward Carlos Tevez believes the Bianconeri will still be successful even without Antonio Conte, but says the club must keep hold of "champion" midfielder Arturo Vidal this summer.

- Rzouki: New arrivals key to Juve's ambitions

Massimiliano Allegri has taken charge of the Old Lady following Conte's shock resignation last week, but the titleholders have already strengthened their side this summer with the arrivals of Alvaro Morata and Patrice Evra, while a deal for Udinese midfielder Roberto Pereyra has been agreed.

And Tevez -- who says he never considered following Conte out of Juve -- now hopes nobody else will leave, especially not Manchester United target Vidal.

"Vidal's phenomenal and a real champion," he said at a news conference in Turin. "I hope he stays here because we can't afford to let our champions leave.

"I'm delighted with Evra's arrival -- he's a great friend of mine. Let's now wait and see when we have our full squad what objectives we can set ourselves this season in Serie A and the Champions League."

Many Juve fans fear their recent domination of Italian football is over now that Conte, regarded as the architect of those three straight titles after taking over a club which had finished seventh in their previous two years, walked out on the club this summer -- but Tevez does not share their concern.

"We just need to prove that we are a winning team," he continued. "Conte had a big influence on our victories, but the scudettos are not only his merit. This is why we've now got to get even stronger.

"It's much more difficult winning a fourth straight scudetto than it is having to cope without Conte. His decision didn't disappoint me.

"With this team, growing a little bit more in Europe, we can win the Champions League and give our fans great pleasure.

"I'm pleased that Roma and Napoli think they're favourites for the title -- let's now see what happens on the field. We deserve respect. We are the defending champions."

Juve's squad is set to be enriched further with Hellas Verona's Romulo the latest target, according to Tuttosport. Juve are also still being linked with Samuel Eto'o, although the 33-year-old is reportedly keen on a two-year contract while the Old Lady would prefer to offer only one.
