Willy Caballero signs for Man City

Willy Caballero has previously worked with City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Manchester City have made their third signing of the summer, bringing in Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

-  City may have to omit one foreign player

The Argentine, who has cost a reported six million pounds, will provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The 32-year-old has been signed by City manager Manuel Pellegrini for a second time after a spell together at Malaga, during which they helped the Spanish club finish fourth in La Liga and reach the last eight of the Champions League.

Caballero told City's official website: "I am very happy, and really looking forward to the start of pre-season and performing well to help the team.

"This is a new challenge and a new league for me. I have been doing well in previous years, and my goal is to go on and hopefully perform at the same level for City.

"I know I am coming to a big club with a very good goalkeeper. City already have a great goalkeeper in Joe Hart, but I will try and compete for the No.1 spot. I will do my best in the training sessions."

Caballero arrives as a replacement for Costel Pantilimon, who was released by the Premier League champions at the end of last season.

But while the Romanian only started seven league games in his three-year City career, Caballero offers more of an alternative to Hart.

He began his career at Boca Juniors before spending seven years at Elche and then signing for Malaga in 2011.

Malaga made a last-ditch attempt to keep him, with president Abdullah Al Thani declaring on Sunday that he was not for sale, but City have got their man.

He joins Porto midfielder Fernando and Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna among Pellegrini's close-season recruits, with a centre-back also being targeted.
