Mark Hughes will turn things around at Stoke City - Peter Coates

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has the club's backing despite a poor start to the season, chairman Peter Coates has told Telegraph Sport.

Stoke are yet to win in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign, drawing once and losing their last four matches to leave them bottom of the table.

But Coates said: "We are obviously disappointed with the start we've made but Mark and the management team have our full support.

"He is a very experienced manager and knows what it takes to get results in the Premier League.

"It's still very early in the season and while these results obviously can't go on forever, we're convinced that things will change."

Hughes has been in charge at Stoke since 2013, leading the club to ninth-placed finishes in each of his seasons at the helm.

Stoke are next in action in the EFL Cup against Hull City on Wednesday before hosting West Brom on Saturday.
