Wilson Palacios, Thomas Sorensen and Andy Wilkinson leave Stoke

Stoke have released Wilson Palacios after a dreadful time at the Britannia Stadium when the £8 million midfielder only started 14 games in four seasons.

Honduras international Palacios was signed from Tottenham in 2011 but made a negligible impact for Stoke and did not appear at all this season.

The 30-year-old former Wigan and Birmingham player's contract will expire in June and Stoke have confirmed they are not renewing it.

They tried to sell Palacios to Qatar Sport Club last summer but the move broke down and he returned to the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke also released goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen and right-back Andy Wilkinson along with nine members of their under-21 squad.

Danish keeper Sorensen signed for Stoke after they won promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and the former Aston Villa and Sunderland player made 129 appearances.

He ended last season as third-choice goalkeeper behind Asmir Begovic and Jack Butland.

Defender Wilkinson, who came through Stoke's youth system and has been on their books for 15 years, made 194 appearances for City.

However, he featured less frequently after Mark Hughes' appointment as manager and made only two appearances this season, when he was loaned out to Millwall.

Stoke also confirmed that on-loan centre-back Philipp Wollscheid's move to the Britannia Stadium will become permanent on July 1.
