Mikael Silvestre leaves role as director of football with Stade Rennes

Mikael Silvestre has parted company with Stade Rennes by mutual agreement.

Silvestre, 39, ended his playing career two years ago after an 18-year professional career in which he won five Premier League titles and the Champions League with Manchester United.

The former France international returned to Rennes, the club where he started his career, in July 2015 as director of football to oversee the club's football operations. But now he has parted company with Les Rouges et Noirs, who sit seventh in Ligue 1.

A statement on the club's official website read: "By mutual agreement, Stade Rennais Football Club and Mikael Silvestre have decided to put an end to their collaboration and to announce it officially today, in accordance with the commitments made by both parties.

"Stade Rennais FC thanks Mikael for his services and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.''
