St Etienne coach warns players after Coupe de France struggle

Saint-Etienne manager Christophe Galtier has warned that some players will be sold this month after watching his side labour to a Coupe de France victory over Ligue 2 strugglers AC Ajaccio on Thursday.

Galtier made wholesale changes to the team that beat Lyon 1-0 in the Rhone derby last weekend and the home side needed a Benjamin Corgnet goal in the final minute of extra-time to book their place in the next round.

Saint-Etienne face a trip to fellow top-flight team Troyes in the last 16 but some of the current squad may not be there for that game after Galtier, 49, lashed out at his team's performance.

"To suffer that much and to play a non-match in that fashion is very worrying," Galtier said at a post-match conference.

"For some, there were shortcomings but generosity [of effort]. For others, there was a lot of complacency.

"That kind of behaviour is frankly starting to annoy me. And we'll have to put it right because otherwise we're going to be in real danger.

"I think the intrinsic value of the players I have in mind is maybe not in question... but their commitment, yes. This lack of commitment effects the team, the mood, the squad.

"There are 10 days left in the transfer window. Some players will be leaving. And if they can't leave, they will work with the reserve side."
