Benny Feilhaber of Sporting Kansas City confirms foreign interest

The Houston Dynamo earn a point on the road away at Sporting Kansas City.

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Benny Feilhaber has confirmed he's been contacted about a possible move away from Major League Soccer.

Sources told ESPN FC earlier this month that Feilhaber was in "advanced discussions" towards signing a pre-contract with a club outside of MLS, with Israeli Premier League champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva making an offer this summer.

The 31-year-old's contract with SKC expires at the end of the current season, permitting him to sign a pre-contract with any club since he is in the last six months of his contract.

Speaking to MLSsoccer.com on Friday, Feilhaber added that clubs from Mexico have also shown interest in acquiring his services.

Benny Feilhaber has scored seven goal for Sporting Kansas City this season.

"At the end of the season, there's teams interested in me right now for me to sign a pre-contract," Feilhaber said.

"There's not anything on the table with some other teams, but there's been talks with my agent with teams in Mexico as well. There's definitely interest."

Sporting KC manager and technical director Peter Vermes would not discuss any potential moves for the influential midfielder, and Feilhaber, who has scored seven goals and provided nine assists this season, did not rule out remaining in Kansas City for the 2017 season.

"Whether something will happen or not, I think, is yet to be seen," Feilhaber said. "It's just going to kind of depend on what the height of the interest is, I guess, in clubs outside of MLS and also the interest that Sporting has to try and re-sign me."
