Opara, who leads all MLS defenders with two goals, was enjoying a strong start to the campaign after fighting his way back from a season-ending ankle injury suffered last last April.
It is not yet known how long Opara will be sidelined.
The team will divulge more details regarding the injury following further medical evaluation.
