Spartak Moscow donate £5,000 to 102-year-old who had savings stolen

Spartak Moscow have given a 102-year-old supporter more than £5,000 after his life savings were stolen.

Otto Fischer, who has been a Spartak fan since his 20s, lost around £8470, according to Russia Today, after allowing a man he believed to be a social worker into his home.

In response, Spartak players and staff came together to raise the cash and it was given to Fischer by striker Vyacheslav Krotov on television.

"With Otto Fischer, a really cool guy, who wished us more victories! He says he will try to come and see our matches," Krotov wrote on Twitter.

Spartak fans and members of the public have also been contributing after the club set up a bank account for Fischer, while they will also donate a percentage of ticket sales from their game against Kuban Krasnodar on April 4.

"We immediately called the person looking after Otto Fischer and asked him for his bank account number," head of Spartak's fan club Oleg Semyonov is quoted as saying by the Metro. "Then we published it on various football fan sites, and supporters -- not just of Spartak -- were invited to take part."

Fischer was also invited as a special guest by Spartak for their 1-0 win against Dinamo Moscow on March 15, with the 102-year-old being asked to take part in a ceremonial kick-off.

"I am very glad to get this help," Fischer said. "I bow my head to everyone who understood this situation. If I get another opportunity to see another game, I certainly will with great pleasure. We have a saying: It is better to see something once than to hear about it one hundred times."
