Barca's Cup win gives Luis Enrique confidence in La Liga title defence

Luis Enrique is optimistic heading into the new season after watching his Barcelona team dismantle Sevilla to clinch the Spanish Super Cup.

The Catalan club turned a two-goal first-leg lead into a 5-0 aggregate victory over last season's Copa del Rey runners-up as a brace from Arda Turan and Lionel Messi's second-half strike boosted Barca to early silverware in the new campaign.

Luis Enrique hopes to land a third straight Spanish title with the Nou Camp outfit and feels the signs are positive ahead of their league curtain-raiser against Real Betis.

He told Barca's official website: "It was a great win against a tough opponent. I'm glad we pulled it off without conceding a goal -- that was achieved because we played with high intensity.

"Now we have to focus on Saturday's game, as we go into the new season as the defending champions, and with the intention to defend our title.

"To cope with such a long campaign I will need all my players at their best, not just 11. Everyone will participate and they must play at their best so we can achieve the objectives we have set ourselves.''

Arda fired Barca into a 10th-minute lead and doubled his haul shortly after half-time, before Messi headed a third and proudly went on to lift the trophy.

It was a bitter first taste of competitive football with Sevilla for their new boss Jorge Sampaoli, who replaced Unai Emery in the summer.

"I think we should have scored in the first half, but we weren't able to,'' he told sevillafc.es. "Then, when they created their first chance, they got a goal.

"In the second half we made mistakes early on as we were feeling a little bit down, but on the whole I liked what I saw from the team.

"We were not strong enough when we had opportunities to hurt them, whereas they managed to hurt us.

"You cannot be forgiving against a team like Barcelona because they will punish you.''
