Barcelona B's Moussa Wague handed four-game ban for hitting fan

Barcelona B defender Moussa Wague has been handed a four-game ban for striking a supporter in the face at the weekend.

Wague, 20, tangled with a SD Ejea fan on the touchline during Barca B's 1-0 loss on Sunday as he attempted to get the ball back to take a throw-in. The Senegal international has since apologised for his actions, which he said were provoked by "numerous and repeated racist insults."

Barca have not lodged a complaint about the alleged racist abuse but will appeal the length of the ban. Ejea, meanwhile, have thanked Wague for saying sorry but said they are unaware of any racism being directed his way during the Spanish third division game.

"We want to publicly thank Moussa Wague for his apology," the club said in a post on Twitter. "With regards to his complaint that he received racist insults, at no moment were the referees, stewards, members of the security staff or anyone from the club [Ejea] aware of anything like that happening.

"Any [racism] would have been dealt with very strongly."

Wague, who scored for Senegal at the World Cup, is in his first season at Barcelona after signing from Belgian side KAS Eupen.

The right-back did not make his B team debut until October due to bureaucratic issues, but has quickly established himself in Garcia Pimienta's side and was on the bench for the first team's Copa del Rey game at Levante.
