Amazon Prime to produce La Liga documentary featuring Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez is to feature alongside five other La Liga figures including Real Betis midfielder Andres Guardado and Eibar president Amaia Gorostiza in a new Amazon Prime documentary series to be screened in 2018 and available in 200 countries.

"Six Dreams" will also follow Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams, former Sevilla coach Eduardo Berizzo and Girona sporting director Quique Carcel through their day-to-day activities, in Amazon's first Spanish-made and first Spanish-language original series.

La Liga are involved in the production, along with longtime broadcast partners Mediapro, a Catalan company also involved in Amazon's behind-the-scenes series following Manchester City. Serie A side Juventus also have a similar deal with Netflix.

La Liga president Javier Tebas told the launch event at Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano stadium that the series would show what goes on at clubs when games are not being played.

"We like telling soccer stories," Tebas said. "We do it live every weekend, but think there are other stories, sometimes extraordinary, which can go on entertaining during the week."

Mediapro chief Jaume Roures said at the launch that the series would be of interest not just to football fans.

"Live transmissions [of games] are just 180 degrees," Roures said. "We have to fill the other 180 degrees with quality content of interest, not only to people who go to matches but those who aren't really interested in soccer. It is part of a leisure offer and clubs should be more open. [Viewers will see the] effort, the sacrifice and suffering. There are a lot of tears behind what you see live on Saturdays or Sundays."

Christoph Schneider, Amazon's director content acquisition Europe, declined to comment when asked whether this could be a first move towards Amazon perhaps bidding to broadcast La Liga games.

Schneider also suggested that Real Madrid and Barcelona players could feature in a potential second season of "Six Dreams."
