Messi, Suarez, Neymar lift Barcelona as Real Madrid cruise without Ronaldo

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar surpassed 100 goals in all competitions for the season as Barcelona beat Villarreal 4-1 on Saturday to keep pace in the title race in La Liga.

Neymar, who excelled in his incursions from the left flank throughout, opened the scoring in the 21st minute when he poked in a shot by Messi that hit a defender and fell to him in front of goalkeeper Andres Fernandez.

But the visitors hit back at the Camp Nou when Cedric Bakambu raced clear and finished with aplomb.

Barca retook the lead through Messi's deflected shot from distance, making it a ton of goals for the world-class trio while also putting the Argentine onto 50 goals in all competitions for the fifth time in his career.

Luis Suarez then made it 3-1 with a powerful effort under Fernandez in the 69th minute after Sergi Roberto set him up in the area. The result was sealed with Messi's cool Panenka from the penalty spot after a handball by Jaume Costa.

Real Madrid responded with a 4-0 rout at already-relegated Granada, with James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata providing two goals each, all in the first half.

Barcelona still lead Real Madrid at the top of the table courtesy of their superior head-to-head record, but Zinedine Zidane's side have a game in hand and need just two wins and a draw from their remaining three games to clinch a first title since 2012.

With Cristiano Ronaldo not in the squad following his Champions League hat trick in midweek, James opened the scoring after only three minutes as he was played into the box by a Lucas Vazquez pass and dribbled into the six-yard box before finishing far post.

James then added his second eight minutes later by arriving to head home a Fabio Coentrao cross and effectively seal the result.

The rout was on as Morata turned in a low, cutback cross from Danilo to slot past Granada keeper Memo Ochoa from 12 yards.

And five minutes later Morata was again on target when he shruggled off a defender's challenge and launched high hard shot by Ochoa from close range.

Earlier, Saul Niguez's strike ensured Atletico Madrid beat Eibar 1-0 at the Vicente Calderon to confirm a top-four place and Champions League group stage qualification.

Niguez struck 20 minutes from time when he latched onto a ball from Diego Godin and drilled home a left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

Godin was then sent off in stoppage time after picking up two yellow cards in the space of two minutes.

Atletico remained in third place, five points ahead of Sevilla in fourth and 11 ahead of Villarreal in fifth. The top three spots in earn automatic berths to next season's Champions League group phase while the fourth-placed finisher must go through the playoff round.

Sporting Gijon gave their survival hopes a major boost with a 1-0 win over Las Palmas at El Molinon.

Carlos Carmona gave them a first victory in eight that moved them within three points of 17th-placed Leganes.

Carmona outmuscled defender Pedro Bigas and put his shot into the corner of the net past Javier Varas Herrera from 12 yards.
